Behavioral scientists convened in Hawaii
On August 3, 2013, Hye psychologists convened in Honolulu at a gathering of the Armenian Behavioral Science Association (ABSA). This three-part gathering was part of the 121st annual convention of the American Psychological Association (APA). It was chaired by Professors Harold Takooshian and Ani Kalayjian of New York City.
First, Professor Nancy J. Nersessian of Georgia Tech received the annual William James Book Award from the APA Society for General Psychology, and spoke about her co-authored book on Science as psychology.
Second, Dr. Mary Karapetian Alvord from Maryland received the 2013 ABSA Outstanding Achievement Medal, to recognize her 35 years of inspired leadership in health care–as a practitioner, mentor, researcher, teacher, author, and innovator of a resilience-based CBT group therapy program–described at www.alvordbaker.com
Third, ABSA participated in a symposium on “U.S. ethnic psychology associations: Origins, growth, future directions”–including ABSA with three other groups: the Italian American Psychology Assembly (IAPA), Iranian American Psychology Association (IAPA), and Greek American Behavioral Science Institute (GABSI). ABSA was formed in New York City in 1987, and is now a network of 600 behavioral scientists of Armenian ancestry in North America. Those who wish free details on ABSA can contact takoosh@aol.com .
